Volunteers can bring their small children to work and can get significant discounts on food. Raised beds in the back of the store are used for composting unsold produce. The store sells many items in bulk. Bring your own containers and reduce the amount of packaging that goes to the landfill.

Main Street Market

Main Street Market at 512 Main Street in Rapid City has a selection of local meat and poultry you won’t want to miss. In the freezer in the back you will find Hutterite turkeys and chickens. Elsewhere in the store are Hutterite eggs, beef and lamb from Sunrise Ranch near Edgemont, and buffalo from the 777 Ranch south of Rapid City.

Beyond the meat category you will find locally made black bean salsa, products from the Vanilla Bean Bakery in Spearfish, and local honey. Market owner Nina Hollenbeck and I agree that we should also mention the Wild Alaska halibut and salmon. Not exactly local foods, these fish are caught by local businessman Corey Brost of Spearfish. And then there is the Dark Canyon Coffee provided by another local businessman Greg Johnson of Rapid City.
